Commendations From Courts

Last night, we told you about Belize Bank's scholarship awards ceremony. Well today, Courts held theirs at the Belize Chamber of Commerce office. 13 students got full high school scholarships. It is part of their "Dare to Dream" program and we were there to speak with the recipients. Here's more.

Grisel Carballo - Public Relations Officer, UNICOMER Belize
"The Courts "Dare to Dream" scholarship program of course it is a yearly program that we have at UNICOMER and Courts and our ads were out since the ending of May, June was the deadline, on June 30th and we received over 60 applications from students all over thecountry.We had 25 interviews and we took it down to 13students."

"The scholarship covers 80 percent of tuition fees, books and also it is a 4 year scholarship program so it is from 1st 2nd 3rd 4th until they graduate, full year scholarship, 80 percent that we cover. We recently had 17 graduates from our UNICOMER scholarship program we must say that these students are very intelligent. We have had valedictorians as you can see we had our guest speaker today Ms. Adalita Carillo as a valedictorian of our scholarshipprogram.

"Our company prides itself in giving back in not only in many donations but through this scholarship program. Education is a big thing, should be a big thing in our country and we pride ourselves in giving back as much as wecan."

Courtney Young - Recipient
"Well, my future high school is Stan Creek Ecumenical Junior College and what I want to be in the future is adoctor. It is going to help me, it is a big help because it will help my parent financially and it will also help me achieve my dream and further myeducation."

Helarie Sub - Recipient
"So I read the newspaper and I saw that Courts were giving scholarship so I decided to apply because I told myself I never know what I can do unless I try so I applied thanks to my parent they have wonit.I will try my best because I always dream about becoming a nurse to help the people all over theworld."

The program also provides mentoring to the kids.
