Gunman’s Murder Attempt Caught on Camera
Mon, October 22, 2018
A Belize City man narrowly escaped death on Saturday - and he didn't even know it until he saw his own attempted murder on Facebook hours later!

It happened on Friday night in front of a restaurant on Mahogany Street - when 19 year old Kelvin Gongora aimed his gun at a man who was leaving the restaurant, and pulled the trigger - but the gun snapped - twice!

Surveillance footage shows that the intended target - who had his back turned - wasn't even aware that someone was pointing a gun at him.

Police told us more:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"Sometime after 10:30 Friday night, police was called to Tasty Restaurant on Mahogany Street where they view a video surveillance footage which showed a male person pointing a firearm at another male person who was leaving the establishment where the gun snapped twice and there after he pointed it to the persons who were buying inside of the restaurant. Based on that, police manage to get one of the persons that was inside of the restaurant. They interviewed the person and also they spoke to the guy who had left the restaurant to whom the gun was pointed at. But he informed the police that he had no knowledge that that had happened and that he was aware of that until he saw it on Facebook. The gun man was detained. He is presently in custody and he will be charged sometime later this afternoon."

"Was it just a random act? I mean this gun man coming up to that establishment and pointing that gun or is it something personal?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"No. it is something between the alleged gun man and the intended victim."

This evening, Kelvin Gongora was charged for Aggravated Assault. The gun was not recovered. He is a well known to police and is from the Mayflower area.
