Auditor General Looks Into Sports Council
Thu, October 25, 2018

And he’s also been minister of sports since 2015, and the auditor general has now completed an audit of a portion of that time at the sports council where - we are told - multiple, troubling irregularities with management of public founds were found.

Now, we don’t have the audit just yet - but Faber acknowledged its existence, while denying responsibility:…

Jules Vasquez
"However we understand now there is the auditor general that has done an audit of activities at the sports council and as come up with some troubling findings. Is this and the board has that report - is this something that you are apprised of and what is your take on it?"

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister "I have not seen the final report, although over the course time, I have been made aware of the fact that - that audit is being conducted. I will make clear, that the period of auditing that is in question, did not happen at least not when the sports council was under my direct care. It may have been that I was the overall minister, so much of what has happened there is news to me, I am learning of it as I go along. I want to make that plain to the Belizean people, that overtime in fact when I came into the care of the ministry that we found quite a bit that was going on wrong from many, many years and so I think that is what is being unearthed by that report that your asking about. Under my watch we've made sure that in fact those persons who we felt were not the best stewards of the resources are no longer there and in fact we took quite a few measures in including putting in measures for procurement, putting in measures for any kind of spending that's going to happen. Changing some of the players that were on the board, changing again, the key personnel in the area of financing. So that is certainly under my watch, no longer the case."
