PM Says Litigation Risk Not A Real Consideration
Fri, December 28, 2018
As we told you, the Prime Minister's New Year's message will air later tonight. We got the audio version just before newstime and in it he once again emphasizes his support for a "yes to the ICJ" vote. The Prime Minister took direct aim at those who continually cite litigation risk as the reason they don't want to take a chance going to the court. Again, we have only the audio version of the message:...

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Those who talk about litigation risk need to be reassured that the ICJ is obliged in its decisions to keep sovereign countries intact. The ICJ is thus completely bound by international law and its rigidly applied self-determination principles and those principles uphold absolutely Belize's right to live in peace within its 1859 borders. Those principles further make clear that there cannot be even the slightest variation from our boundaries. I therefore appeal to Belizeans to fear not and to procced with absolutely assurance to the April 10th referendum polls."
