Man on Bicycle Run Over On Highway

There was another fatal accident over the long weekend - this one happened between Miles 50 and 51 on the Northern Highway - and the victim was on a bicycle.

On Saturday night at 7:20, 62-year-old, Excequiel Lopez Leon, from Tower Hill Village was knocked down by 34 year old Shaun Dortch - who was heading in the same direction - both were southbound. Dortch - who was driving a Mazda SUV - told police that Lopez Leon veered into the road:...

"Dortch reported that whilst travelling south just outside of Orange Walk Town. he observed a cyclist on the side of the road who swerved onto the middle of the highway and as a result that person was knocked down. His name was learnt to be Excequiel Lopez Leon, 62 years old Guatemalan national of Chan Pine Ridge Village in the Orange Walk District. Dortch was detained pending investigation and thereafter he was serve with a notice of intended prosecution. The investigation is being prepared for onward transmission to the director of public prosecution in order for her to make her determination."

Police have not brought any charges and will wait on word from the DPP.
