No Answers For City Shootings
Thu, March 21, 2019

Police don't have much to go on regarding a pair of shootings this week in the city. In the first shooting on Monday, a 63 year old man was shot on Patridge Street while on Tuesday at midnight a 22 year old man was hit on Antelope street. Here is more from police.

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC CIB, Belize District
"It was just after the blackout just before 8pm when Mr. Gilroy Garnet, 63 year old Belizean was purchasing food at Bolo’s Shop located on Partridge street while he was there a male person approached him and fired shots at him which cause him to receive a gunshot wound to the stomach. Up to this point Mr. Garnet is admitted in a stable condition at the hospital."

"Sir do we know what led to this shooting?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We have spoken to him however there is not much information coming from him as the time when the incident happened it was dark in that area and he was unable to identify who the shooter was up to now."

Reporter
"Do you believe he was the intended target of the shooting?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well we suspect that he was, there was nobody else in the shop when the incident happened. The second shooting happened on Tuesday, it was just minutes before midnight that Joshua Gillett 22 year old Belizean was walking on an un-named alley on Antelope Street Extension when he was approached who fired shots at his direction causing him to receive a gunshot injury to his body. We really don’t have anything much because the person who was injured he has been questioned several times by police but he has not provided enough information to us."

There are no suspects in either shooting.  We do note however that after Joshua Gillett was shot, the GSU found a .38 revolver in an empty lot off Antelope Street.  That’s near to where he was shot and the pistol had 5 expended shells and one live round in the chamber.
