18 Years for Killing Wife
Wed, February 12, 2020
44-year-old Noewellyn Williams, the man who was charged with murder, but who has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. That was the sentence that Justice Colin Williams handed him today after hearing his mitigation plea.

As we told you, Williams was charged for killing his ex-common-law wife, 33-year-old Roxanne Pop in August of 2018, at Boulevard Plaza on Central American Boulevard.

Williams and Pop had agreed to meet at that location. While they were there, Williams allegedly pleaded to Pop to take him back, but she refused. That sent him into a rage, where he then took out a knife and he fatally stabbed Pop several times in her abdomen.

Before he decided on the sentence, Justice Williams heard testimonies from 2 family members of the victim. They told the judge that during the time that he was romantically involved with Pop, there were many times when Williams abused her. This was considered an aggravating factor.

The mitigating factors in Williams' favor were that he had had no previous conviction, and that he pleaded guilty. Also, the judge took into account that he had given police a statement admitting his guilt. Also, he expressed remorse in a letter that was read in court by his attorney, Stevanni Duncan.

So after subtracting those 6 years from the 18-year prison sentence, Justice Williams added 4 more years to account for the aggravating factor in the case. That means that Williams will actually serve 14 years and 8 more months in jail for this manslaughter conviction.
