Drug Case Dropped Against Supt Chi and Constable Norman Anthony

In other news of a cop getting off a serious charge.

The high-profile drug trial of Police Superintendent David Chi and Constable Norman Anthony concluded in a rather abrupt manner today. All charges against the two police officers, as well as the two alleged Mexican drug runners, Eli Figueroa Nunez and Azariaz Manzano have been dismissed. That's because the state couldn't produce enough evidence to prove that they committed any crime.

As we told you, all 4 men were arrested and charged with the summary offense of conspiring to land the drug plane. That's after police accused them of facilitating the September 2018 landing of a loaded drug plane in Blue Creek, Orange Walk.

Their trial began in December last year in the Orange Walk Magistrate's Court before Senior Magistrate Patricia Arana. One of the prosecution's witnesses was supposed to show up to court today to give evidence, but that witnesses absented himself. That caused  Alifa-Elrington Hyde, who was prosecuting them against the defendants, to close her case early. Since no compelling evidence was led against defendants, their attorneys made no-case submissions, which the senior magistrate upheld, after consideration. After the hearing, our colleagues from CTV 3 News spoke with defense attorney Dickie Bradley about the outcome, and here's what he had to say:
