Reports: Cabinet’s Consensus Choice is Omar Figueroa
Tue, February 25, 2020
Cabinet met today in Belmopan and reports reaching us are that Cayo North's Omar Figueroa has emerged as the consensus choice to take over leadership of the party. We are told that the minister of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development received pledges of support from a majority of Cabinet members. He has reportedly accepted their support and will declare his interest for the party leadership post after Saturday's National Party council meeting. The Cabinet consensus is that his acceptance should lead to an endorsement convention.

Notably Patrick Faber was not at the meeting. According to reports, he is travelling. So will he also contest for the leadership? He told us via text, quote, "No final decision yet ... it's taking a bit longer than I expected and I apologize for all those in suspense. I'm hoping the party's NPC on Saturday will help me a little further along in arriving at a final decision."

We'll have coverage that event.
