Major Crime Stats Down, A Curfew Dip?

And for those that break the S-O-E regulations, there are criminal charges. On Saturday, police charged 62 people countrywide for various offenses under the State of Emergency Regulations. 1 person was also summoned for being unable to provide a reasonable explanation for movement outside of the curfew.

27 persons were charged with breaching the curfew. 15 people were charged with failure to wear a cloth mask or other face and mouth covering while in public. 9 people were charged with being unable to provide a reasonable explanation for movement outside of the curfew.

5 were charged with cross-district movement, and 2 were charged with failing to practice social distancing.

Also, 2 people were charged with keeping a business establishment open that was required to be closed. And 2 people were charged with entering Belize illegally.

These will be added to the police crime statistics, which will also reflect that during the months of April and possibly May and June, when a national curfew was in effect, major crime was way down. It seems like a sort of gift to the police - after all, up to the end of March murder figures were up by 6 from the previous year. But April had 3 murders, and today the Commissioner said it is work not the curfew that has the murder rate down:
