Registry Judgement: Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay
Fri, June 26, 2020
And while the PM was careful not to say too much on that one, he didn't have to say much at all on the other Ashcroft-related matters. That's the judgement from the Caribbean Court of Justice on government's 2013 acquisition of the IMMARBE AND International Business Companies Registries, one of them formerly owned and operated by the Ashcroft alliance, the other by Morgan and Morgan out of Panama.

The matter has been in court for years, and the final judgement is expected from the court of final appeal next week. If government loses, the damages could be in the tens of millions of dollars, possibly close to 100 million, we are told.

Today the PM said, if government loses, it simply cannot pay:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"If the judgement goes against us, you don't need to ask me for reaction on Tuesday, I'm telling you from now - won't pay, can't pay. End of story."

The judgement is set for delivery on Tuesday afternoon and we'll have it all on our news later that night.
