COVID Cases Continue To Climb
Fri, August 7, 2020
Tonight - COVID cases are surging in San Pedro where health authorities says there is very active community transmission. And there's also community spread in Santa Marta village - I went there today and we'll have that later on in the news.

Countywide there are 80 active cases - most of them spread across three active clusters in San Pedro. And by the end of the night there will be many more, as 75 samples were taken today from persons showing symptoms on San Pedro. Health authorities say they expect the possible confirmation of another 30 cases could be confirmed tonight.

Here's Dr. Russell Manzanero from the Ministry of Health giving an overview of the numbers countrywide. He spoke a short while ago on Ask The Experts:

Dr. Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health
"As of yesterday the 6th August we have a total of 114 reported cases of Covid-19. When you look at it between the sexes of males and females it's pretty much almost equal. We do have 54 females and 60 males. It's pretty much at par. We have had 32 recovered cases. We have 80 active cases, the majority of those being from the Belize District mainly from Ambergris Caye and in Orange Walk we have 29 active cases and Corozal 15 and just prior to that DHS had mentioned those from San Ignacio and here in the Belmopan area as well. So basically just to highlight that from now we do know that there is an ongoing community transmission on the island pretty much concentrated in San Pedro Town."
