Life In Prison For Broad Daylight Killer
Tue, December 21, 2021
About 3 months ago, we told you how 29-year-old Keyron Gibson was found guilty for the broad daylight gun murder of 31-year-old Tulio Caceres. Well, the sitting judge, Justice Herbert Lord, has sentenced him to serve life in prison for that crime.

Last week, Justice Lord heard a mitigation plea on Gibson's behalf, who chose to remain silent when he was handed his sentence. The judge told him that he showed or expressed no remorse for his actions after being found guilty. In Justice Lord's view, the aggravating factors were that the act of Gibson caused a senseless loss of human life, without any provocation. The mitigating factor was that the defendant was the sole provider for his family.

After going through the aggravating and mitigating factors in this case, the judge ruled that he would serve life without the possibility of parole until after 25 years in jail. But, he also deducted 6 years from that parole eligibility for the time Gibson spent on remand awaiting trial. That means that he could pursue parole after a 19-year jail term.

Gibson stood trial by judge alone for the June 2014 murder of Tulio Caceres.

Viewers may remember the public disturbance and terror that occurred after Caceres was attacked. He was shot and killed at the entrance of Pink's Alley, which was right in front of the former Belize City Hall headquarters, and right across from St. Mary's Primary School.

The crown's main witness was a police officer who identified Gibson as the gunman. Dr. Mario Estradabran, the medical examiner, said he saw 17 gunshot injuries on the victim's body.
