BIMFF Lost Money? Minister Says That's An Investment
Wed, May 1, 2024
And over in San Pedro, in the summertime, the Belize International Food and Music Festival will be heading back to Ambergris Caye.

It's the third annual festival, and last year, while no figures were published, multiple anecdotal reports say the festival staged in the city made a substantial loss.

We asked the Minister if that is the reason they're taking it back to the island for the second time.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Like I said, I don't consider it a loss, I consider it an investment and for us it's building on something. San Pedro has the adequate room stock I believe and we want to attract more people from abroad, from what I hear, the hotel rooms in San Pedro are already booking up and so we'll continue to do our part in promoting music or culture, food, everything that is Belizean."

Courtney Menzies:
"Do you anticipate that future concerts will remain at San Pedro?"

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Well I can't answer that, but the Food and Music Festival-"

Courtney Menzies:
"That's the one I mean, future Food and Music Festivals, will San Pedro be the place to go?"

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Well, this music festival yes, it will be housed and resident in San Pedro."
