And as he explained, the trip to Mexico City was a private one, which he says is why he didn't make a public announcement, as he usually does.

But still, he's the prime minister, and the norm is that even when a Prime Minister is on personal leave it is announced because an acting Prime Minister is appointed.

He didn't see it that way and said that he didn't understand why our news director was making such a "big deal" about it.

"Well, I think it was a private trip. My wife had medical attention, so I went there. It was not a trip that I was going to go and meet the President. I had a suit, simply because I was to go to Dallas for a meeting with the MCC."

"They invited me for a meeting on Monday night, but to me, it was more important to meet the President because of the challenges we are facing with electricity and also of the products that we want to sell in to open up new markets for Belizean products into Mexico, including sugar."

"To me, I think that the precedent. So it was a private trip with my wife. And Jules Vasquez knew it, so I don't know why he's making a big deal about it."
