Also present at the Civil Aviation's press conference was the CEO for National Defence & Border Security and the current commander for the joint intelligence operations centre, JIOC.
Their Multi agency response played a vital role when the alert went out . Defense CEO Francis Usher says that regardless of how the situation had played out that day, they were more than prepared as things unfolded.
Francis Usher, CEO, National Defence & Border Security
"It was a dynamic situation, many moving parts things were changing each minute as it progressed but JIOC did an exceptional job at one, coordinating within the security forces, 2 coordinating within each ministry , 3 coordinating regionally and internationally, all at once and the security forces the police, pdf and the coast guard were prepared for as many outcomes as possible. We were prepared for a marine landing if you want to call it that we were prepared for as many aerodromes as we could be it did highlight some vulnerabilities, things we are addressing actively but the JIOC and the security forces did an exceptional job on that day we are indeed lucky as Mr Vasquez puts it out of the ten thousand possible bad outcomes we had one good outcome and we are grateful for that but we were prepared for just as many outcomes as we could have been prepared for on that day."
Notably, Belize's airspace was closed during the hijacking and only a BDF plane and the hijacked flight were in the air. The BDF plane was tracking the hijacked Tropic Flight.
