PM Strikes Conciliatory Tone In Speech On Public Sector Employees
Mon, May 12, 2025
As you heard, the Prime Minister also addressed the unions in his budget speech.

But, it's worth noting the language used and the full context of his remarks which were conciliatory and not confrontational:

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Some days ago, labor unions representing teachers converged and subsequently demanded pay increases from government. I imagine sister unions representing public workers will align with the request for a wage increase. With a voice of reason and a hand of friendship, Cabinet has authorized its negotiating committee to engage with the union representatives in good faith, recognizing that for the unions, time is of the essence."

"And it should be clear that government has a duty indeed, and ought to ensure that decisions are in the national interest that is, in the interest of all taxpayers, not just the fraction that our government employees. I hope and expect that discussions can unfold constructively."
