For 3 weeks now - we've been following the story of Athena, the 6 year old special needs child who accidentally swallowed a dollar coin. Well, the good news tonight is that - it may have taken 20 days - but she has finally passed it. We spoke to her mom who said she cheered when it came out:

"This afternoon she pooped and when I went to clean her, I cleaned her normally and when I didn't clean her, she just twitched a little bit and I put on her pull-ups and I said let me check this pampers. And when I checked it, the dollar was in there. I was so excited. I scream out, my next kids they came and said mom what happened? I said Athena passed the dollar coin. Everybody was happy. I was just happy excited and relieved She never had no pain or nothing."

"She wasn't constipated?"

"She wasn't constipated. Actually last night. I made Papaya shake and I add a little bit of prunes, so I said maybe that give it the little kick to push it out."
"I want to say thanks to everybody that text, call and gave me their support especially the peers and I also want to thank Belize Specialists Hospital. They told me that they were going to do the procedure for me in the next couple of days, but thanks be to God. She didn't need the procedure, but I also I do really want to thank them very much."
She thanks the Belize Specialists Hospital who had offered to remove it surgically if necessary - fortunately it was not.
