A mid-sized SUV burst into flames on the George Price Highway around 7:30 this morning - but thankfully, no one was hurt. The fire broke out just past the 4 Mile police checkpoint in Belize City.
The driver of the 2014 Ford Escape, 43-year-old Karina Villanueva of Burrell Boom, was eastbound, heading to work in Belize City with her three children when she noticed smoke coming from the hood. She quickly pulled over, and with help from police at the checkpoint, got her children safely out of the vehicle.
The SUV, valued at $20,000 Belize dollars, was completely destroyed. It was insured with RF&G.
Police say no injuries were reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
