41 year old Brian Castillo was a beloved former teacher at EP Yorke and education officer at the Ministry of Education. But this morning around 4, he got into a fatal accident while on a golf cart in San Pedro. Without a postmortem, the police are unable to say at this time how he passed away, but ASP Stacy Smith - who did today's press briefing - gave us the details they know so far.

"A male person was driving an orange in color 4 seater golf cart. The police responded and upon arrival at the scene it was observed that a male person of dark complexion was lying face up on a stretcher and the golf cart had a small dent consistent with a collision. The male person was identified as Brian Castillo and the body now awaits a postmortem."

"What kind of injuries did he sustain that led to his death?"

"The extent of the visible injuries that was shown is just minor injuries. He was observed bleeding from his head and motionless."
Reporter:
"Was there any alcohol involved?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"There is nothing on the scene to indicate that however a postmortem will be able to identify if that was the case."
A statement from a family member says, "Brian was a valued member of the communities that he was a part of, including Edward P Yorke as a former science teacher, the Ministry of Education as an education officer and the Belize Volleyball Association as a former national team player and now a respected volleyball official." They tell us the family is in a state of shock- as are so many of his friends and associates.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology where he was employed also issued a statement saying "Mr. Castillo dedicated many years of committed service to the Government and people of Belize, both through his tenure at the Ministry and his earlier years as an educator at Edward Percival Yorke High School. His contributions to education were marked by dedication, professionalism, and a sincere passion for nurturing learning and development...
