Mon, May 19, 2025
On Friday we told you that 23 year old Selvin Sealy's postmortem ruled that he died from "restraint asphyxia" while police were trying to subdue him. The coroner said it was a homicide.

Sealy was reportedly trespassing on a San Pedro resort when he was detained. He'd climbed a tree and was refusing to come down. However when police subdued him, he lost consciousness and passed away shortly after.

So what now becomes of the arresting officers? ASP Smith said they are currently on suspension.

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"The postmortem was conducted on Friday whereby the results of that examination concluded that the results of that death was restrain asphyxia. As it relates to police's action, the DPP has directed that a statement be recorded from the pathologist and that will determine the next course of action. Similarly, the police department has been doing their parallel investigation which included the immediate suspension of the persons who are suspected to be part of this incident."

Reporter:
"Can we have a clear timeline from when Sealy was arrested to his death?"

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"As the investigation continues, we will disclose more information as it becomes necessary to disclose."
