For Want Of A Scone, She Ended Up In Jail
Mon, May 19, 2025
You might not know what a scone is - but it's a fancy pastry and tonight a woman is in jail because she ordered one of those - along with some other treats and couldn't pay for it.

It happened at Spoonaz Cafe Spoonaz Café in Belize City, ordered oxtail, a Sprite, a blueberry scone, and a Mackeson - racking up a bill of $48.25.

When it came time to pay, the customer, 46-year-old Idi Mcdougall, handed over a Belize Bank card, but multiple attempts to process the payment failed due to insufficient funds. The woman claimed someone was sending her money and asked for more time.

After repeated failed attempts and no alternative form of payment offered, they went to make a police report.

On Sunday, Mcdougall - a retired nurse -was arrested and charged with Obtaining Services by Deception.

She appeared in court today for obtaining services by deception. She told the judge it was an honest mistake. But she was unable to post bail of five hundred dollars and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
