In late 2022, we told you that the Belize Tourism Board had lost another 6 figure civil suit for the wrongful termination of its former Director of Marketing and Industry Relations, Misty Michael. Michael claimed just under 218 thousand dollars as damages for wrongful termination.
Justice Lisa Shoman ruled that Michael was entitled to damages over over two hundred thousand dollars.
The BTB appealed the decision of the trial judge and questioned the validity and enforceability of Ms Michael's employment contract- and today that appeal was dismissed. The Court of Appeal found that the appointment by the Chairman and Vice Chairman at the time were enough to validate her appointment.
