Joint Unions Write Back To PM Maintaining Demand For 8.5%
Thu, June 12, 2025
The exchange of letters continues between the joint unions and the government. In a strongly worded letter dated yesterday and addressed to Prime Minister John Briceño, the Joint Union Negotiating Team has rejected the government's counteroffer of a 4% salary increase, calling it "a significant act of bad faith" due to its conditional tie to the implementation of a contributory pension scheme by October 1, 2025.

"It is disingenuous to present this as a benefit," the unions wrote. They are calling instead for the immediate implementation of an 8.5% salary increase, in line with previous negotiations and the rising cost of living.

"You're selling crumbs as a feast," the unions stated.

Despite the sharp tone, the unions say they remain committed to a "collaborative and solutions-oriented partnership" with the government.
