| And from sugar to soft drink scarcity…San Pedro and Caye Caulker may be at the height of the tourism season but merchants out there say the supply of sodas and alcoholic beverages is at an all time low.
A resident of San Pedro told us they can't get any Beers, from Belikin to down to 501 and the same goes for soft drinks and 5 gallon water.
Caye Caulker also reports that there is an acute shortage of drinking water.
So what's up with Bowen and Bowen which controls the market on all these products?
The company's corporate relations manager today told us that they did have an interruption in supply for products in plastic bottles due to a breakdown over Christmas but that has now been restored.

"So specifically to your question on San Pedro, I know that some of the products that were in question we do have in stock out there such as Heineken, Red Stripe, Belikin beer we have Sprite in glass, we have 5 gallon water available out there at our sales depots so regarding those products no those are in stock."
"So we did have an interruption in production at our PET line over the Christmas holidays. It was down for about a week or so due to a part that needed to be replaced. We ended up airfreighting the part from Germany and PET Iine is back now and it is producing but us we do realize that it created some issues with supplies in some parts of our markets particularly for PET."
"We do recognize that it is high season right now and again due to the interruption in PET production it did place pressure on other products you know because we also have our other products in cans and in glass bottles so because customers were not able to get their favourite products in PET They then shifted to cans so we had to increase our production in cans as well. So it is a work in progress all of our lines are up and running. So we are hoping to get things normalized in the coming week so everyone can get their favourite products."
