And from today’s beastly crime to a pair of executions on the weekend. Saturday’s first killing happened at the mouth of Taylor’s Alley where a well known messenger and brother of city councillor Kevin Singh was gunned down. As we found out - it is also the weekend’s most puzzling murder.

On Saturday morning around 4:30, Mayher Singh known as Scrungie was walking out of Taylor’s Alley when he was confronted by a gunman who ran up to him and shot him in his head – four times.

“All we know is that he was home and according to the young lady in the alley, she said that he got up saying he couldn’t sleep and he walked out in the alley way, it was right into some gunman, one or two, I don’t know how much, and he got like three or four shots in his head and I think I saw one on his hand.”

His landlord Hilda Longsworth heard the shots.

“I was in my bed last night when I heard when somebody said Scrung, Scrung. But I didn’t hear him answer and I waked from then and I laid down and then when I heard again he was going out into the alley. He is a big man and I can’t be following him and as he got out there I heard the shots and I didn’t think it as Scrung because he doesn’t quarrel with nobody.”

Mayher Singh is the younger brother of city councillor Kevin Singh. He identified the body on Saturday morning.

“When I got out there Saturday morning I couldn’t believe it until I got there that it was him there. When I got out there I found him on the ground and it really couldn’t sink in it was him until we got there. When they came for me I couldn’t believe it until we got there the morning and we found him on the ground still.”

You know of any reason why someone would want to hurt Mayher?

Kevin Singh,
“Really and truly I don’t know. He has his bad ways when he gets high and thing and he likes to tell you foolishness and maybe somebody took it the wrong way. And besides the point of that, the alley where he lives in, I guess you guys know the alley, they always have shooting and thing so I just figure maybe somebody came and they had something through here and they just came and shoot whoever they saw.”

Maher Singh was a brother of Kevin Singh like a son to Hilda Longsworth and she can think of no reason why anyone would kill the well mannered and hardworking 39 year old.

“He is well respectable, well respectable. I have never find a fault with him from the time he moved in here, never. I can’t understand the reason and I don’t know why it happened because he is not a boy who is troublesome to nobody. He is not a argumentative person. I can’t understand why. Who did this? Why what is their reason? Last night he stood up right there and he said he has something to tell me and he said in the morning he will tell me. Poor thing, he didn’t live to see the morning to tell me. But you know, one day they will get it back in return. I might dead and gone but he won’t go unpaid for what he did to Scrunge. He won’t go unpaid at all. What goes around will come around.”

Singh worked for attorney Arthur Saldivar. Police are investigating.
