Honoring Belizean Patriots
posted (September 15, 2005)

A foreign diplomat, the king of brukdown music, and a police officer wounded on the battle lines with Guatemalan thugs were among the honorees at last night's annual tribute to Belizean patriots.

This year's patriots are the Taiwan Ambassador to Belize Charles Tsai; Mr. Peters from the legendary Boom and Chime Band; Arthur Hoare (posthumous) who founded Baymen Cable Network; retired librarian Iris Gibson; Police Corporal Colin Faux who was shot during a shootout with Guatemalan bandits near the Melchor border; Ivy Hall who was the first public health nurse in British Honduras; and the queen of pepper Marie Sharpe.

The patriots were presented with medals by Governor General Sir Colville Young.
