Arraigned for Murder, But Had To Go To funeral For His Brother’s Murder
posted (December 1, 2020)
Last night, we told you about the Friday night gun killing of 37-year-old Erwin Castillo. He's the taxi driver who was shot and killed while he was in his vehicle on Flamboyant Street in Belize City. TODAY, 19-year-old Chervin Tench, the resident of that same street who police believed was the shooter, was arraigned in Magistrate's Court.

Tench was arraigned before Magistrate Khadeen Palma on the single charge of murder. No plea was taken from him, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February 2, 2021, his next court date.

Now, here's where it gets interesting. Tench's brother Dwayne Cherrington, was killed just a few nights before Castillo.

And, after his arraignment, Tench told court reporters that he gave police a caution statement. He claimed that he was in Dangriga to mourn the loss of his brother, and that he has an alibi for the night in question. The Gang Suppression Unit, who was in charge of his escort to the Belize Central Prison, then escorted him to the funeral service of his brother, Dwayne Cherrington, in handcuffs. That funeral which was streamed live showed him there in cuffs with his GSU escort and amidst all that, a huge crowd that definitely was not socially distant - posing a major public health risk.
