Stevedore Brought To Tears Over Unfair Treatment
posted (May 9, 2023)
And one stevedore who's been offloading ships since he was 14 years old was brought to tears today as he spoke about the sacrifices that he and the other stevedores have had to make. He said he's tired of being taken advantage of, and just wants PBL to start the process so that they can get the money they deserve.

Marlon Middleton, Chief Rep, CWU/Stevedore
"When it comes to sacrifices, our stevedores are… let me put it in layman terms. Myself, I'm a stevedore, I'm not just the chief rep, I'm a stevedore. My gang was supposed to work this week. I have a loan to pay. I am sacrificing. All of the stevedores are sacrificing. We're tired. We're tired of this. You see me with my tears right now, we're tired of taking this lick. All we're asking PBL is to get off of our money that we deserve."

"We aren't backing down guys, I don't have much to say because I don't want to get catch saying the wrong thing because I'm hurt because we fight everyday for this country, we work hard, we put our life on the line for this country, for everybody in this country and people take us the wrong way and say that all we do is fight for money. This is money that we deserve. We went from making like, I will just throw a figure, let's say we were making $30,000, now we're making $15,000 because the sugar is gone. How can we go to the bank for a loan? Those are things people don't know. But you see me with tears in my eyes this morning because I'm tired of getting pushed around but I'm not afraid to cry on the media because we're tired of it."

The Aries is set to return next week, so we'll tell you how that goes.
