30 Year Sentence Reduced to 6
posted (June 14, 2023)
Three years ago, in October of 2020, Kevin Jex was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of Desmond Miller, who he fatally clubbed in the back of the head with a two by four back in 2013.

The judge had initially ordered that he would not be eligible for parole until after serving 20 years. But during the appeal of his case, his attorney, Leeroy Banner argued that Jex's life sentence was too harsh a punishment for the crime he committed.

The Court of Appeal judges, Madam Hafiz-Beltram, Madam Woodstock Riley, and Justice Foster agreed with Banner that the sentence was excessive, and replaced it instead with 6 years 3 months and 14 days. So rather than being eligible for parole in 2040, Jex will now be free in 2026.
