Alliance Tries to Block CWU Protest
posted (June 15, 2023)

The Christian Workers union, which represents the Port's Stevedores gave a notice of Industrial Action a week ago, and tomorrow the union is planning a Peace Rally to be held in front of the Port.

But, the Ashcroft Alliance is doing all it can to block it.

It has had it's attorney write a letter to the commissioner of police asking him to revoke the permission to protest.

The letter says, quote, "Our Client is concerned that, given the CWU's well documented history of utilizing illegal methods when engaging in industrial action, the demonstration will lead to violence against our Client's employees, damage to its property as well as members of the CWU trespassing on PBL's property. Most importantly, the demonstration will affect PBL's ability to service it's customers whom frequent the area of the demonstration." End quote. Nonetheless, we understand the permit has not been revoked and the peace RALLY as they call it will proceed tomorrow.
