And while the Prime Minister has urged the Territorial volunteers to tap the brakes on their Sarstoon patrols, the fact is Guatemalan fishers are encroaching on Belize's southern waters. The BTV's patrols have regularly come across Guatemalan fishing boats and gill nets - which are banned in Belize. And today, they found a stingray wrapped up in a net. Video shows them trying to cut the sting ray out, while it thrashes around, desperate to be free. According to Wil Maheia, they are doing their part to help protect the environment, especially since Guatemalans fish in our waters with harmful gear.
