Two Men Convicted For Menzies Murder
posted (November 2, 2023)

Tonight, 3 years after his murder, the children, family and friends of a well known Bowen and Bowen employee are feeling some sense of justice.

57 year old working man Sean Menzies was killed on the night of in November of 2020 - for no known reason - by two young men who seemed to be looking for a target, any target.

And today - in a trial without jury - Eric Miranda and Jeffery Contreras were found guilty of his murder.

The 53 page judgement was handed down by Justice Sandcroft who told the men, quote, "I am satisfied that the Prosecution has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that both of you killed Menzies, hence why I find you both guilty of murder."

As he told the men they were guilty, both just stood in the box cool, calm and serious.

Justice Sandcroft has reserved sentencing upon the men for December 7, 2023.

And while one family can feel some satisfaction of justice, another is still in the depths of grief. The main identification witness in the trail, Iran Jones was killed earlier this year - and found in a shallow grave in Biscayne.

He went missing after testifying in the murder trial after giving testimony which helped the crown seal their conviction. Prior to testifying Jones had expressed his fear after receiving threats on his life. And, on the day he was to take the stand, Jones told authorities he had received death threats. Jones was placed in protective custody - but according to the Commissioner of police, he walked away from that. Three days after testifying, the father to be, went missing and days later his badly decomposed body was found in a shallow grave in the Biscayne area.

The case was prosecuted by Riis Cattouse and Miranda and Contreras were represented by Attorneys, Darrell Bradley and Arthur Saldivar.
