Shyne Moves Against Saldivar
posted (March 26, 2024)
UDP Leader Shyne Barrow has made the first steps towards removing Belmopan Standard Bearer John Saldivar.

He today got his party's Central Executive Committee to approve a motion to remove Saldivar, and one of his allies in the Caucus For Change, Denny Grijalva from Orange Walk Central. The motion was passed 19 in favor, 9 against. The reason? Well, the party constitution only permits standard bearers to lose three times - and they both did that. But after the 2020 election, the National Party Council created an exception for those two to stay on in spite of their losses. Well now, Barrow is taking a countermanding resolution to the party council. The new resolution says - basically - that they got an exception - and made no significant electoral process after that - and then went on to foment party disunity in the caucus for change, so…..? Off with their heads! Or, at least the political equivalent - which is removal as standard bearers. The National Party Council is expected to vote within a week on their fates.

Of course, it's not that easy - and Barrow has lost to Saldivar before in the National Party Council when he tried to eject him in November of 2022. We'll see how this one goes.
