Licensed Gun Owner Was Drunk, Now He's In Jail
posted (May 7, 2024)
A businessman is currently on remand after he was found with his firearm license while allegedly intoxicated. 31-year-old Omar Avelar, owner of Good Care Pharmacy, was in court today to answer to two criminal offenses of failure to provide a specimen and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The firearm was a pistol containing 18 live rounds of ammunition.

He appeared unrepresented and pleaded not guilty. Due to the nature of the crime, he was remanded but was advised that he could apply for bail at the High Court.

The incident occurred on Sunday around midnight, when Avelar approached a checkpoint in his vehicle. The car only had one working headlight so the officer stopped him and asked for his driver's license. Avelar informed him that he did not have it, and that's when the cop smelled alcohol on Avelar's breath. When he searched the vehicle, he found the gun. He then escorted Avelar to the police station, and then to the KHMH where he was asked for a blood specimen, which he refused.
