Belize was recognized today at a commemorative event in Kingston, Jamaica. It had the participation of health ministers from the three countries - and Belize's minister was accompanied by pubic health nurse Ester Deville. She spoke to the media via Zoom about the importance of the accomplishment:
Nurse Ester Deville, Public Health Nurse "Coming to Jamaica to receive - accompanying the minister to receive the certificate has been a very historic. It was a celebration in the room, actually. The countries were really happy to receive this because we know as part of the healthcare workers that how much it takes for us to reach at the level that we are right now. It is a time for us to celebrate a big accomplishment, because definitely, having a child being exposed and having HIV, a vertical transmission meeting from mother to child of HIV or having congenital. It's a loss to our country. There shouldn't be any with what we have available. So we would like the public to know, you know, that it is readily available. And we are willing to assist them in whatever we can."
