A 50-year-old mentally ill man has been missing since last Monday. James Young was at the Jacob's Farm Rehabilitation Center in Patchakan when he went missing around midday. In the last eight days, his family has searched all around the farm, and even up to the border, but they have not been able to find him.
Now they are turning to the public because they are fearing the worst. His nephew says that Young is able to get around so if he was on his way back to the city, he would have been able to make it by now.
He added though that on the day he went missing, Young was supposed to take his injection for his condition - and he's supposed to take several pills every day. Without those, his nephew has no idea what mental state he could be in right now.
He spoke to us this evening.
Kenroy Young, Nephew of Missing Man
"He was a part of the rehabilitation program at the Jacobs Farm Rehabilitation Center in Pachakan Village on the Chan Chen Road in Corozal District. The last time the administration saw him was at midday on Monday and apparently from then he has not been seen or heard from and the family has been searching from since that call was made on Monday and nothing has turned up."
"We have received a lot of tips over the weekend, we started intensifying and expanding our search into Orange Walk and the surrounding villages and all the way to the Mexican border. Some of my relatives met with Mexican authorities at the border and they passed on a flyer because he suffers from mental challenges, he suffers from schizophrenia so at times he would have mental breakdowns and the family made a decision to take him to Jacobs Farm to have him rehabilitate because he smokes marijuana and cigarette and his psychiatrist and the psychiatric nurse has continuously stressed to me that if he wants to come off injection and only take pills he has to stop the drugs and the smoking."
"He lives in Belize City, he's originally from Belize City and it is our belief that if he left and he wanted to come home because he didn't want to stay there anymore, today makes eight days and no word from him, no sighting of him."
"He was last seen wearing a dark blue, blue t-shirt and a dark blue long pants and he's six feet two inches tall, dark complexion, dark black and gray hair because his hair is going gray and I would assume by now that his facial hair would have been growing back because he's without anything I don't know what he's with because he took nothing with him from the rehab center I know my uncle and my belief is if he was coming home he would be here by now."
