The Mayor of San Pedro Wally Nunez won the municipal election by a huge margin - and had hoped he could use that popularity to vault into the big seat as standard bearer. He expressed an interest in replacing Minister Andres Perez as the PUP Standard bearer - but tonight he has been shut down.
A directive reportedly from the party secretariat says that none of the recently elected mayors will be allowed to participate in any contested convention for standard bearer.
Mayors will only be allowed to participate in an endorsement convention - meaning a seat where there's no other candidate interested in aspiring for it.
So, Mayor Wally's short-lived candidacy is now over. We understand he has taken down his Facebook posts where he was promoting himself as a candidate.
