Cop Complains About Being Victimized, ComPol Not Sympathetic
posted (May 22, 2024)
A police officer by the name of PC Kent Reyes is in trouble after he allegedly discharged a firearm in public.

He's wanted by his own police for aggravated assault with a firearm.

He says he simply fired a warning shot into the ground and now faces an offense for which he can be remanded.

He feels he is being targeted innocently because, according to him, he only fired a warning shot. Now, the cops are after him, and he says it's affecting his mental health. Today we asked the ComPol about it.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"It's not a matter of him being victimized, but I am sure that you alll being members of the media, would know what is our policy when it comes to assault with the use of a weapon or the use of a weapon per se."

"And what happened is that the police officer is accused of discharging his firearm in public. There was some issue with him and some other individual and that occurred. The policy always is that once we have a complaint, we take the matter before the court and the court decides because we don't want to to ignore because one side decided don't want nothing and then something happens afterwards then they say, oh the police knew but the police did nothing. So our thing is to charge, have the complainant go before the court and withdraw the matter and then we proceed from there. Mr. Reyes is no exception to the rules and again when it comes to police officers we must be even more tougher because as law enforcement personnel we have a duty to uphold the law and we must always ensure that what we do is in the best interest of the organization we serve as well as in the service to the people that we serve."

Jules Vasquez
"He said he fired a warning shot towards the ground. He wasn't...."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I am not aware of that being a warning shot or what justification there were for a warning shot to be fired. I don't know of that, but if he's been sought by the police in Orange Walk, my advice to him is to please go and surrender yourself and let the law takes its course."

"If it is that the people that are aggrieved by his conduct want to go to court and withdraw, he can have them go with him to court and withdraw the matter there and then. He will not have to go to jail if he gets the person to go to court and withdraw the matter."

Jules Vasquez
"He made some suicidal statements in there. Are you concerned about his mental health?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well we have had our psychiatrist reach out to him to offer some level of counseling but again it cannot be that because someone threatens suicide that we must just leave them alone."

"If not, then every person we go to detain, they will say if you come, I will commit suicide. Then what do we do? leave them alone because they threaten to commit suicide. That cannot be the order of the day, so he's being sought by the police, he needs to surrender himself and let the law take its course."
