Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body in the Belize River in the western part of the country.
The grim discovery was made early this morning around 5:45 a.m., when police recovered the body of a male from the River. The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, making positive identification difficult.
Investigators say the search began the evening before-on Monday, April 28th-after police received reports around 5:30 p.m. of a body floating in the river. Officers conducted a search that night but came up empty-handed.
When they returned to the area the next morning, they located the body. A wallet containing a social security card was found on the deceased, but police say the remains are too badly decomposed to make a positive ID at this time.
The body now awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and possibly confirm the identity.
