And of course these added layers of security will come at a cost, one which the Belize Airport Authority will be able to absorb only for now, which may eventually force domestic airlines to increase their fares.

"What I do know from the meetings that I went to the BAA before talking conceptually about the whole issue of security services, the BAA said that they can absorb the cost for one year but after that they would have to levy a fee for security services. And if you look at the charges at the Phillip Goldson airport you will see that there is fee for security services that are paid by the traveller or by the people so we will have to look at where to get to pay that it will either, we have to do that or I don't know where else we can get it, but put it on the ticket or pay it separately but from the passengers."
