Fined $1k For Stealing $5k From Employer
posted (May 12, 2025)
A former store manager has been convicted of stealing nearly five thousand dollars from her previous employer, Belize Comex Paint Ltd.

30-year-old Maritza Isabel Padilla pleaded guilty to two counts of theft after admitting she took the money while managing the company's Albert Street branch. Padilla told the court she planned to repay the funds before an inventory uncovered the missing cash-but she failed to do so in time.

The stolen amounts-over four thousand dollars from a delivery to General Mart in Benque, and another five hundred from a customer deposit-were never returned. She was fined one thousand dollars and must pay by June 30th or spend six months in jail.

Magistrate Ludlow Black warned Padilla that future offenses won't be treated as lightly.
