Unions Went Into Afternoon Meeting With GOB, Still Rolling Into Evening

This afternoon at 2:00, the. Joint unions went into a negotiation session with a team of senior ministers at the Government House in Belize City. The union's main demand is an 8.5% salary increase across the board for the 16,000 public officers paid from the public purse.

On the government side, they are saying that the wage bill is already 700 million dollars. Annually and to add that increase would cost an additional 63 million dollars to It.

The joint unions are led by their presidents PSU President Dean Flowers, BNTU President Nadia Caliz, and APSSM President Sharon Fraser, while the government side is led by Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde with Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, along with Ministers Francis Fonseca, Oscar Requena, Henry Charles-Usher and Minister of State, Chris Coye.

The meeting was shelled from 2:00 to 5:00 - but it continues at this hour and our team remains on site.
