Postman Accused Of Opening Someone's Mail
posted (May 15, 2025)
A postal worker is tonight facing criminal charges for a rarely seen offense ""opening a postal package contrary to your duty."

41-year-old Tyrone Miles Davis, a Postal Clerk I at the Belize City Post Office, was arraigned this morning in Magistrate's Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of "opening a postal packet contrary to your duty as a post service employee."

Police say the alleged incident happened sometime between April 28th and May 13th, when Davis reportedly tampered with mail addressed to Mercy Cervantes.

The case came to light after a supervisor at the Post Office noticed irregularities during an inspection and reported it to police. An investigation was launched, and surveillance footage was reviewed. Davis was later detained.

He told officers the mail had been returned "but when the supervisor checked the recipient's mailbox, the postcard in question was found "torn open on one side.

Davis is now out on bail of $1,500 dollars, under strict conditions: he must not contact the complainant or any potential witnesses.

He's due back in court on July 15th.

No word yet on whether he'll be allowed to return to work in the meantime.
