In other conservation news, last week the Friends for Conservation and Development met with Prime Minister Briceno and Minister Orlando Habet to discuss the challenges in managing the vast Chiquibul Ecosystem. We asked Minister Habet for more details today:

"We had a meeting with FCD and the Prime Minister, we were looking at how the management effectiveness of the protected areas the Chiquibul National Park can be improved and how collaboration can ensue between the concession year for the Chiquibul reserve and the national park, so you have a long term sustainable logging concession in the reserve, and in the national park you have their protected areas which is their co-management done by FCD."
