We've been reporting for weeks on the deep divide within the UDP - which continues to deny the Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Panton any path to the leadership. Well, now there is one. Kind of.
A release from the party says that the UDP Central Executive Committee - presumably led by Shyne Barrow - met at party headquarters on Sunday to chart the path forward, quote, "focusing on national unity and internal reform."
A major development was the unanimous vote to allow for the possible reinstatement of expelled members. Now, bear in mind that the high court has ruled that the Panton expulsion was unlawful.
But, regardless, they invoke the constitution and say any member who has been expelled for at least one year may apply for reinstatement-provided they issue a public apology and commit to the party's membership conditions.
The release also states that there will be a full-scale National Convention in October, and all 31 constituencies will be open to conventions starting in July. Additionally, they agreed that the current elected leadership will remain in place until the convention.
