Some of you may remember this video of 39 year old Brandon Gillett brandishing this high powered rifle in front of St Ignatius church while his grandmother's funeral was taking place. He did so in the heat of a family dispute.
It was a licensed firearm but police said it was altered so as a consequence, the municipal court bailiff was charged and remanded to prison.
Gillett was back in court today with his attorney Monica Stuart. The senior magistrate ordered his charges to be withdrawn, on the grounds that Gillett did not in fact alter his firearm and had simply bought accessories for it and did not change the firearm or its caliber. With that Gillett was free to go with his charges dismissed.
