City Flirts With Concept Of Floating Bridge At Southern Foreshore
posted (May 21, 2025)
Aside from keeping the streets garbage free, the Belize City Council had recently hinted at the construction of a floating boardwalk concept for southern foreshore, a project in partnership with the European Union. They met their Dutch counterparts to discuss it last week and we asked the mayor for more details today. He said -it's still at the conceptual stage:

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
"That project really came out of a matchmaking exercise that we did in Panama in 2023, and we were put together with Blue 21 which is a Dutch group that has extensive knowledge on floating boardwalks. And as a matter of fact they did the iconic floating pavilion at Rotterdam, that is one of their staple achievements and out of that exercise the group with the Dutch government were able to put together a feasibility study. And so they got grant funding to see if that sort of technology solution would be able to work in Belize City and so we are right now in the process of the feasibility study which will take us up to January of this year thereafter. After much consultation with the DOE with all the other stakeholders then if it is feasible then we go into the construction of it."
