Facebook crimes are not uncommon - but increasingly now they have been going to court.
A Call Center Sales Agent was arraigned this afternoon for a cyber crime involving one of her relatives. 43 year old Erika Twist was accused of using a computer system to publish a false statement about a man who allegedly molested a 15 year old relative of hers. Twist took down the post 3 hours after, but the person had already filed a report linking the profile to her. She appeared before a magistrate this evening where she pleaded guilty to the charge of using a computer system to disseminate a false statement with the intent to cause another person to be subject to public ridicule, contempt, hatred or embarrassment. The magistrate took into consideration that it was Twist's first conviction for such an offense and imposed a non-custodial sentence of a fine of $400 dollars.
