The man accused of chopping his brother to death was caught this morning. Based on information received, Punta Gorda Police visited Tambran Village, Toledo District where they found 55 year old Rafael Cal.
Cal had been wanted from Sunday night when 50-year-old Alcalde of Medina Bank, Romano Cal, was chopped to death. Police found Cal in his yard, lying face up with a deep chop wound to the left side of his neck. He had just returned home and was walking beside his bus toward the house when his brother, Rafael Cal allegedly ambushed him and inflicted the fatal wound with a machete. Rafael then fled the scene on a bicycle, carrying the weapon.
The Toledo Alcalde's Association noted his passing in a statement saying, "Our entire Maya community is impacted by this heinous crime and urge a thorough investigation by the authorities…we will endeavor to assist as best we can to restore peace and heal this wound."
Rafael is now expected to be charged for the murder and remanded.
